Zion Lodge Stories

A Job in Zion Park!

When I was a teenager, I got a summer job in Zion Park working at the Lodge. During that summer, I remember standing on the pedestrian bridge across the Virgin River at midnight, thinking, “I’m going to live here someday.” And now I do.

Things were a lot different sixty years ago. For example, the Lodge was only open during the summer months and, except for just a few adults, all the employees were high school or college kids who lived in rickety wooden dormitories. It made for a hot and steamy stew.

After I moved to Springdale, at the entrance to Zion Park, a contest was held as part of the Zion Park Centennial. I won! My winning entry was a memoir of my days working at the Lodge. I’m publishing it as a series of blogs here.

(NOTE – Phones and Tablets might not display these stories correctly because they’re embedded PDF’s. The solution is to use a REAl computer, not a fake one!)
