Why is Allen Weiselburg going to jail again?

Allen Weiselburg was Trump’s (father and son) top accountant. If anybody knows exactly where the bodies are buried, he does. He is one of the THIRTEEEN (count ‘em, thirteen) close Trump advisors and associates who have been convicted in Trump’s parade of scams. Weiselburg has already served one prison sentence in New York’s notorious Rikers Island prison. Today, he’s going back for another stretch. But he’s still not a cooperating witness against Trump! He won’t be testifying in any of Trump’s many trials.
(Trump’s corporation has been convicted using Weiselburg’s testimony as the result of a plea bargain with prosecutors – but not Trump himself. But, although the Supreme Court ruled that a corporation is a person, a corporation still can’t serve hard time in prison. I pray that I’m still alive to see Trump himself do the manacle shuffle in an orange jump suit.)
So … Why hasn’t Weiselburg cut a deal with prosecutors to stay out of jail? Surely he knows enough to cut a bargain and at least stay out of Rikers … twice.
It could be that the prosecutors just aren’t willing to cut a deal that will keep him out of jail. They don’t think what he has to offer is worth that much. Maybe. If you believe that, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell to you.
It could be that he’s actually so loyal to Trump that he’s unwilling to betray a trust of honor he made. If you believe that, I’d like to sell you all of downtown New York.
Just guessing, of course, but I think there’s another reason. One that makes a lot more sense when you consider how Trump World actually operates.
Weiselburg has been sentenced to 5 months at Rikers for both convictions. For the first one, he only served about 100 days. There’s no reason to think that the second one will be longer. As the saying among hardened criminals goes, “He could do that much time standing on his head.”
But, in Trump World, there is no trust. There is only fear and revenge. As Trump put it personally in one of his MAGA rallies, “I am your retribution.” So, if Weiselburg has a lot he could spill about Trump, I have no doubt that Trump has even more that he could spill about Weiselburg. And Weiselburg knows that Trump knows. And Trump knows that Weiselburg knows. And the prosecutors know that both of them know. After years of legal disclosure and warrant searches, they’re all knowledgeable people.
In particular, Weiselburg knows that he could spend the rest of his life in jail with what Trump has on him. And he has no doubt that Trump would do it.
They’re like that in Trump World.
