Self Education Project – Caucus Edition

Today is Super Tuesday and I’m off to the Republican caucus meeting. The Democrats would like me to go to their meeting, but I’m not a fan of lost causes. I think it would be more interesting to meet with the Democrats, but I registered as a Republican so I could vote for a sane and moderate candidate to replace the Republican MAGA man who retired. The far right and politically loyal MAGA candidate won. Like I said, “Lost causes”. So, for the time being, I’m a registered Republican. I might as well take advantage of that to sit in the back of the caucus meeting and see what actually happens for myself.

The Republicans in Utah have gerrymandered the districts, and the process too. A straight up election would be dominated by Republicans in this deep red state, but there could still be some possibility that someone who is not loyal to the tribe above all else might get elected. It almost happened in the election that inspired me to temporarily switch parties. That’s easier to prevent through the caucus system. There’s nothing like an organized lynch mob in a caucus meeting  to get the job done. Or maybe not. This way, I’ll see for myself.

In a previous blog, I described how the methods being used by the MAGA movement is a perfect reflection of how the NAZI’s did it in their march to power before 1939. Back then, NAZI party meetings were a key part of the method. The basic idea was to make sure that the party leaders knew who was a loyal NAZI and who wasn’t. They kept careful records and being a “loyal party member” was the first and most important qualification anybody who wanted a job, or just to be left alone could have. Caucus meetings today, while not yet as ruthless as the NAZI’s were, are based on the same idea. I’m reading a news headline on TV as I write this. “Trump Eyes Tuesday Sweep To Solidify Hold On GOP”. Loyalty to the party above all else.

I’m not sure how much time the United States has left. It took the NAZI’s about 15 years to establish a dictatorship in Germany. Actuarial statistics suggest that I don’t have that much time left, but I plan on having as much fun as I can.
